Blackpool Carers Centre is an independent, local charity and network partner of Carers Trust. We provide a range of services to support and enhance the lives of unpaid carers of all ages throughout Blackpool. We began our recovery through the final elements of covid restrictions, with larger-scale trips, activities and fundraising endeavors recommencing in earnest. Our Caring Corporates programme saw more businesses than ever before supporting the work of the Carers Centre.

Our name, abbreviated to HOW, is influenced by the countercultural phenomenon of Ballroom, rooted in the necessity of community and safety, and in the defiance of oppression. ‘Houses’ are chosen families of artists and performers who ‘walk’ at balls as a form of self-expression and escapism. Walking enables people to be whoever they want to be, to create an alternative reality where they can share the version of themselves that they love, without fear of judgment. Lakeside Bistro

A number of years ago we moved to Brickhouse Farm with our two daughters. Our youngest daughter was later involved in an accident, which left her with disabilities. When she eventually came out of hospital we had to adapt our house to cater for her needs; ramps, level floor access and a large wet room to make things easier for all of us. We received such amazing support from our community that in time we felt we wanted to give something back. After speaking with so many families in similar situations to ourselves, all of which struggled to find holiday accommodation with adequate adaptations, we decided to try to make a difference.
