
Blackpool Grand Theatre have started 2023 with a bang, having welcomed a record breaking amount of visitors to their Christmas pantomime.
Sleeping Beauty, which launched on Friday 2nd December at the Blackpool Grand Theatre, has became their most successful pantomime to date. Staring familiar faces such as Steve Royle, Dame favourite Philip Meeks, and Coastal Radio DAB's own Hayley Tamaddon. The Grand also boasted talent such as actor Daniel Taylor, theatre performer Josh Belward, actress Christina Meehan and a stage debut as Princess Rose, by Maisie Sellwood.
"The theatre is delighted to celebrate a record-breaking year with an 89% increase of local families taking advantage of the special family deal. Not only does Blackpool’s No.1 panto contribute to the local economy, but with 49% of its audience coming from the surrounding region, this also contributes to the Blackpool economy - including restaurants and bars, transport and increased visitor experiences to Blackpool’s newest Christmas attraction, Christmas by The Sea", Said a spokesperson for the Grand Theatre.
Sleeping Beauty saw a 30% increase in group bookings and 10% incline in revenue and now The Grand Theatre is already looking ahead to Christmas 2023, with tickets already being booked at a faster rate than record breaking Sleeping Beauty.
This year's pantomime featured Coronation Street Star and Coastal Radio DAB Drive time presenter Hayley Tamaddon, in her first performance in the Christmas pantomime at the iconic Grand Theatre Blackpool. She told the listeners of her show in December, "I'm so excited to be doing this in Blackpool, this is my town, I grew up here. It's very special".
Next years pantomime performance has already been confirmed as Aladdin, with Britain's Got Talent finalist Steve Royle returning, following his 1,000th pantomime performance at the Grand Theatre during his stint in Sleeping Beauty. Aladdin will take to the stage on Friday 1st December 2023 and run through until New Year's Day 2024.
