A new bar could be opening in Cleveleys town centre if plans get the go ahead – but the move has sparked discussions about whether the town needs another licensed premise.
It comes after a blue notice appeared on the door of the recently-closed Rogerson’s Family Butchers at 110 Victoria Road West.
The notice stated that TGC 53 Ltd had applied to Wyre Council for a new premises licence at the address, and that licensable activities would include the sale of alcohol, live and recoded music.
Proposed opening hours would be from 10am to midnight on Monday to Wednesday, and from 10am to 1.30am from Thursday to Sunday.
TGC 53 Ltd is listed by Companies House as a new business which was first incorporated less than a month ago, on on March 20, 2026.
Based on Southbourne Road, Blackpool, its nature of business is stated as public houses and bars.
The three directors are listed as David Ragozzino, Daniel Ragozzino and Sean Roberts.
David Ragozzino successfully opened a sports bar, The G.O.A.T, on Highfield Road in South Shore after he and business partner Dean Reynolds were granted an alcohol licence by Blackpool Council in May 2024 and planning permission two months later. During these applications they were also involved with the Armfield Club on Bloomfield Road.
Rogersons Family Butchers, was a thriving business but in February the owners, Vickie and Simon Rogerson, announced they were reluctantly closing down for health reasons and thanked customers for their support.
Cleveleys has developed a vibrant night time economy in recent years, with new bars such as The Greedy Banker (former HSBC Bank), The District (former NatWest Bank), Backstage Cleveleys (former CJ Cycles), The Vault Bar and Lounge (former Barclays Bank), The Corkscrew (former gift shop), Wobblin (former solicitors’ office), along with existing venues The Jolly Tars, The Tramway and The GlassHouse Cockail Bar.
In Cleveleys town centre outside the premises, passer-by Derek Harrop, who lives in the town, said: “I don’t think we need another bar, there are about eight bars very near to this building.
“It’s nice to have places go at night but we’re doing aright for that now – we could really do with some good retail shops for the high street.”
Susan Robertson, also from Cleveleys, said: “It’s such a shame to lose a really good butchers shop. I came here a lot. I’d rather have a new butchers or a shop of some sort. I don’t think we need another bar, especially so close to the others, it’s too much.”
But Donna Wright, from Thornton, said: “It’s great to have different places to go at night, Cleveleys is really good now. I say bring it on and good luck to them.”
The application has also provoked discussion on local social media sites.
If successful with the licence bid, it is likely that a planning application will submitted.
Anyone wishing to make representations regarding Wyre Council licensing applications must do so in writing or via email to the Licensing Section within 28 days of the application. Feedback can be sent to licensing@wyre.gov.uk or by post to Civic Centre, Breck Road, Poulton-le-Fylde, FY6 7PU.
