The M55 will be closed both ways from tonight

Both carriageways will be affected all week

If you plan on using the M55 this week then be aware, drivers are being warned of a series of full overnight closures this week, with work continuing on the new junction.

Construction on junction two started back in 2019, with aerial pictures showing the near completion of the new system, with the four slip roads and two roundabouts taking shape, with a new bridge linking the two, with the planned opening being later this year.

The new road will link the M55 to a new junction with Blackpool road at Lea, West of Preston, with the junction being constructed between Swillbrook and Higher Bartle.

Closures will be in place for both Westbound and Eastbound carriageways, from junction 1 at Broughton up until junction 3 at Wesham, every night this week beginning from tonight (24th April) until the end of this week on Friday night (28th April).

The closures are for works to be completed including the instillation of hard and electronic signs and gantries, a central reservation instillation, remedial surfacing and road markings. The road closures will occur overnight between the time of 9pm and 5am.

Diversions will be clearly-signed and will be in operation between the Junctions 1 and 3.

The junction is part of a new wider Preston Western Distributer road project,
