A lapdancing club in Blackpool has been granted a renewed ‘sexual encounter venue licence’ for six months.

Councillors on Blackpool Council’s Public Protection Sub-Committee granted Eden 2 the extension following an application by club owner Ashley Sawyer.

The club is based at 96 Promenade Blackpool and is an established venue in the town.

The council has previously stated that it was looking to cut back on the number of lap dancing clubs in the town and wanted to promote Blackpool as more of a family resort.

But the established clubs would be able to re-apply for licences providing they were not found to have breached their licence conditions.

Blackpool currently has three lapdancing clubs, Eden 2 , Sinless and Heaven, less than in previous years.

The application document stated: “If granted this will allow the premises to operate as a sexual encounter venue. fromThursday to Sunday from 2pm to 5am.”

The licence must be renewed annually following changes in legislation which came into force in 2012.

Blackpool Council previously said: “Although the number of premises in the policy has been reduced to zero, we currently have three licensed premises and they will be able to continue as long as they comply with the legislation and licence conditions.

“This means from the point of view of existing venues, nothing has changed by the policy that was introduced in 2021.

“However once the licence is surrendered or revoked, any new application would be considered against the limit of zero.”
