A new production of the ‘fantasmagorical’ musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will be premiering at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens this Christmas.
The show – based on the 1964 Ian Fleming children’s novel – will be directed by Titanic The Musical director, Thom Southerland, and choregraphed by Strictly Come Dancing’s Karen Bruce.
Running from 10 December until 29 December, audiences are expected to be hearing all the classic songs from the Sherman Brothers, including the titular track Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
A spokesperson said: “In Chitty Chitty Bang Bang we meet absent-minded inventor Caractacus Potts who restores a broken-down old racing car with the help of his children Jemima and Jeremy.
“Soon the family discover the car has magical powers, and along with the delectable Truly Scrumptious, the family end up on a hilarious fantastical adventure to far off lands.”
Completing the production line-up is costume designer Morgan Large formally of Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, George Dyer as musical supervisor and casting by Debbie O’Brien.
The ‘magical’ flying car famously appeared on the big screen in 1968 in the film of the same name, starring Dick Van Dyke and Sally Ann Howes.
Tickets will be on sale from 10am on 1 December.
