A woman in her 70s has died after she was hit by a bin lorry outside a pub in Lancashire.
She was struck on Trinity Close, near to the Coach and Horses pub in Freckleton, Preston, earlier.
A lorry driver, a man in his 50s from St Anne's, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. Trinity Close was closed for nearly six hours while emergency services were at the scene.
Det Sgt Matt Davidson, of Lancashire Police, urged witnesses to come forward - this included an appeal for anyone who might have footage of what happened.
Lead member for customer and operational services at Fylde Borough Council, councillor Michelle Morris, said: “I am deeply saddened by the tragic events in Freckleton today. On behalf of Fylde Council, I wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this incredibly difficult time.
“This is a tragedy that will impact many people. The family and friends of the deceased and the wider community in Freckleton will all be affected. We are ensuring that appropriate support is available to all those affected.
“The incident is being fully investigated by the police and we continue to provide our complete cooperation.”
