The future of a much-used children’s play area and multi use games area (MUGA) in Fleetwood is at risk, a councillor is warning.

Cllr Ruth Duffy, who represents the town’s Pharos ward on Wyre Council, says Lancashire County Council is considering the “possible disposal” of the amenities, located in the grounds of Milton Street Youth and Community Centre.

The centre itself is currently closed as there are a number of issues with the building, but Cllr Duffy says the outdoor facilities are well used and any possible closure would be keenly felt by local people.

Cllr Duffy said: “The County Council is proposing the disposal of the Milton Street MUGA (multi use games area) and children’s play area.

“These are popular and well-used amenities and if they were to close it would be a serious loss for the community.

“I’m campaigning to try and save them and I am urging people to contact the County Council and object, if they feel strongly about it.”

She added: “I have put a lot of work and effort into securing gradual improvements and repairs to the area.

“I’m also involved regularly in litter picks around the area on my days off from work, liaising with the community payback team to paint the fences and some of the walls surrounding the site.

“A local business has even donated amounts of paint to help.”

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: “Lancashire County Council has issued a statutory notice, as legally required, about the possible disposal of the Milton Youth and Community Centre site in Fleetwood. We understand that local residents value this site and may have concerns.

“The site has not been declared surplus, but as it is currently not in use, we are considering the options available.

“No decisions have been made, and all feedback received will be carefully considered before any next steps are taken.”

Any objections or representations regarding the proposed disposal of the public open space at Milton Youth and Community Centre should be made in writing to The Head of Estates at Lancashire County Council, PO Box 100, County Hall, Preston PR1 0LD or emailed to estates.admin@lancashire.gov.uk and to be received no later than 5pm on Friday February 13 2026. The grounds for any objection should be stated.
