This cheeky, charming, and poignant play is not to be missed!
The UK tour of The Full Monty stopped off at the Blackpool Winter Gardens play last night for its first performance on the Lancashire coast.
Based on the 1997 classic film set in Sheffield, The Full Monty follows a group of unemployed men who decide to get involved in the stripping business to earn money, after the women in the area pay £10 each to watch the Chippendales in the local Working Men’s Club.
The cast, consisting of Jake Quickenden (X Factor, I’m A Celebrity), Danny Hatchard (Eastenders), Nicholas Prasad, Bill Ward, and Ben Onwukwe worked so well together and pulled off slick, perfectly timed physical comedy to make everyone laugh out loud.
The boys, with a few bumps in the road, work hard on a routine lead by Gerald (Bill Ward) who is a ballroom dancer, and teaches these men with two left feet to do a choreographed striptease.
Although Guy (Jake Quickenden) was only in the show for a small amount of time, he captivated the audience and had some emotional scenes when speaking about his sexuality, and of course he is the man in the group who is into his fitness which the ladies in the audience enjoyed!
A standout performance came from Gaz’s (Danny Hatchard) on stage son Nathan played by Cass Dempsey.
His acting and comedic timing was impressive, and he delivered his lines, whether they were emotional or funny, with perfect precision.
The moveable set is an eye-catching feature and brought the story to life with clever use of the industrialised background to help the story flow.
The Blackpool audience soaked up all the innuendos, danced to the fantastic soundtrack, and cheered along to the big finale performance!
It’s the perfect night out, so grab yourself a ticket fast, its only in town until Saturday!
