A vibrant community-led transformation has brought new life to Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach train station.

A group of volunteers have turned the station from a rather drab looking spot into a more colourful, welcoming space for residents and visitor alike.

The project has been led by Waterloo Councillor Diane Mitchell, who brought together students, rail partners, volunteers and community groups in a shared effort to enhance the station environment.

Year 10 students from Armfield Academy played a central role in the initiative, supported by their teacher.

Their creativity, energy and enthusiasm were instrumental in delivering a striking visual improvement, leaving a lasting mark on the station and demonstrating the power of youth involvement in community projects.

The initiative showcased strong collaboration across multiple organisations, with support from Network Rail, Community Rail, South Fylde Railway and Northern Rail. The day was further lifted by a visit from Northern Rail’s mascot, Whistle, adding a sense of fun and celebration.

Local police and Blackpool Pleasure Beach added support to the project.

Councillor Diane Mitchell also paid tribute to the Friends of Pleasure Beach Station group, whose continued dedication has been key to maintaining and improving the space.

Councillor Diane Mitchell said:“It’s fantastic to see what can be achieved when the community comes together. I’m incredibly proud of the students, who brought such creativity and enthusiasm to this project.

“This is exactly what community partnership is about ,people working side by side to make a visible, positive difference. The station is looking better than ever, and everyone involved should feel proud of what’s been accomplished.”
