Hailed as a vital amenity for cancer patients and their loved ones the new information and support center, Based at Fleetwood Community Hub, which used to be the hospital, on Bold Street has seen positive feedback from the community.

Blackpool Victoria Hospital already has a similar Macmillan center, the Fleetwood based support center will serve people in the Fylde area.

Having been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006 and then having to endure chemotherapy as the condition spread, Linda, 64, has endured her own experience with the disease.

The Singer, a member of the famous family music group Nolan Sisters, announced earlier this year that it had spread to her brain and was undergoing further radio therapy.

Linda isn't the only family member who has been affected by cancer, sister Anne went through her own cancer battle, and tragically, Bernie died in 2013, aged just 52, after fighting a brave three year battle with the disease.

The new center, similar to its Blackpool counterpart, will offer a range of support, from practical, emotional and financial support for those who are suffering with cancer and the families.

Linda said: “I was obviously delighted to be able to open this center.

"Financially the service has been a Godsend, it’s a hard enough time as it is, so to have that support is amazing.

"You’re going through the worst time of your life, you can’t work because you’re sick, so you’re trying to sort out benefits, you have debts – how are you going to live?

"All that seems insurmountable and then someone says they can help you.

"I wouldn’t have survived without it so I’m thrilled to be able to open this one – and get my name on a plaque on the wall!”

Macmillan has set up the new center in partnership with Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Outlet Affinity, Fleetwood Trust, Healthier Fleetwood, and the local branch of the charity Hug in a Bag.
