The event Marks International Women’s Day 2023 and the #EmbraceEquity Campaign with All-Female Line Up.

This International women's day the Tower Dungeon will be host to an all female cast in celebration of this years #EmbraceEquity campaign on Sunday 5th of march.

The global campaign aims to create a better, gender equal, world and celebrate the economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, with every show on the 5th being an all female cast.

The 2023 campaign is themed around #EmbraceEquity, looking at Gender equity values and to work towards breaking down the traditional gender stereotypes that have labelled women's roles.

Actors in the Dungeon will take on a wide range of roles from a jester with a dark sense of humor, a plague doctor, a torturer and many more as they take guests on a journey through Lancashire's Murky past.

With its aim to correct the historical path that has left women assigned to certain roles and expectations through gender equity messaging, the Tower Dungeon thought it would be fitting to show an all-female cast play a court judge from the 1600's and a monk in the Dark ages, positions that would have been unheard of for a woman to hold at the time.

Jane Humphrey's, Performance supervisor at The Tower Dungeon, Said: "Having an all-female cast is such an amazing experience for the actors who will be involved and secondly, for people to see that we are actively taking a stance; we are diverse and proud of what we do."

The Acting profession wasn't always as open to women through its rocky start, at the birth of theatre in Ancient Greece, female characters would have been played by men, even early productions of Shakespeare featured a male Lady Macbeth and Juliet, Now, in modern times, theatre has shown its ability to be a powerful stage for showcasing women's stories and championing both equality and equity.

Kate Buchanan, lead actor at The Tower Dungeons said: "I love that we've brought these strong women together for a special experience for guests and the team, We're standing with women on International Women's Day."

So this Sunday, be very afraid gentleman, if your entering the Pool that is Black this International Women's Day, you might just meet the resident torturer, and word is that they have some interesting tools to they would love to show you, and an even more important message on what roles women can play in todays modern society.
