Plans are underway to upgrade a prominent Blackpool seafront hotel and transform it into luxury boutique accommodation – and here’s a hint at how it will look.

The Royal Carlton Hotel on Central Promenade is now re-branded as The Glass Tower and the bar restaurant element is to called XI (Eleven).

The big plans come in the wake of John and Elishar Westhead buying the hotel in May last year, under the umbrella of Central Beach Leisure.

They have now revealed more exciting plans to redevelop the 38-bedroom hotel into a luxury boutique hotel, with the prospect f new jobs as well.

Central Beach Leisure also manage around 35 luxury apartments for serviced accommodation, which is set to rise to more than 80 by April 2026.

John said: “This is a multimillion pound investment and we are investing a huge amount of time, resources and money into this in the hope that others will follow and we can be part of a wider regeneration for the area.

“I am born and bred in Blackpool so it means a huge amount to me to create something this iconic for Blackpool and also to support the town growing and attracting more and more people in the future.

“We are also looking after large portfolio of serviced accommodation which further strengthens our commitment to growth and opportunity in Blackpool.

“If this project works then we hope it’s the first of many hospitality businesses that we will be opening over the next 10 years or so. We want to ensure the future security of Blackpool is in safe hands and also that we create huge opportunities locally for local people and tourists alike.”

Artist’s impressions show that the team, while substantially upgrading the exterior of the hotel, are maintaining its cherished Art Deco features.

There is also plenty of work ongoing inside the hotel, to facilitate the luxury branding.

To promote their endeavours at the hotel, they have also invested in a promotional tram to highlight their plans.

John added: “ We are also recruiting for all hotel, bar and restaurant roles currently.”
