Wyre Council has issued a statement on it's position regarding the Thornton Little Theatre.
The statement issued by Wyre Council says.....
We know that recent news about this distressing case has caused understandable concern in our community, our sincere thoughts are with those who have been affected.
Wyre Council acts as the landlord for Thornton Little Theatre, which is a council-owned asset. The leaseholder is responsible for the day to day operation of the business.
Wyre operates within a two tier local government structure, in which responsibilities are shared between Wyre Council and Lancashire County Council (LCC). While safeguarding is a responsibility shared by everyone, LCC is the lead authority with the statutory duty for safeguarding children and adults.
When the individual was arrested, safeguarding procedures were implemented promptly, and a multi agency risk assessment was carried out by the statutory agencies. It is our understanding that the required safeguarding measures were being actively applied and enforced through this multi agency process. Our role as a landlord was to ensure that the individual was removed from the Designated Premises Licence. This action was completed without delay.
We are now actively working with Cre8iv Group Limited to determine the future arrangements for the venue and will provide an update to residents as soon as we are able to do so.
Wyre Council takes safeguarding extremely seriously and continues to apply and enforce its safeguarding policy across all council tenancies.
