Tourism promoters in Blackpool caused a stir when they announced that a major new attraction was coming to the resort – a giant 300 metre outdoor water slide culminating in a 50ft splash zone on the prom.
The ruse momentarily fooled a number of people who initially thought the announcement was true.
It stated: “We’re thrilled to announce that ‘Slide The Prom’ is officially coming to Blackpool Promenade this July.
“Starting near Central Pier and finishing in a 50ft splash zone at the edge of Comedy Carpet, this 300-metre outdoor waterslide will be the longest of its kind in the UK.
“Using a specialised saltwater filtered system, the slide will offer 14 days of high-speed family fun from 20 July – 3 August from 10am to 7pm.
“Plus, it will be completely free to slide! Due to anticipated high demand, a pre-registration ballot for free “Early Bird” wristbands will open at midday today.”
‘I Love Blackpool’ is the official promotional brand and social media profile managed by VisitBlackpool, the official tourism marketing arm of Blackpool Council.
One visitor to the site commented: “Never mind April Fool, get it done.”
Another posted: “Nearly got me – then I remembered what day it was.”
