Spring at Grundy Art Gallery

Spring at Grundy Art Gallery – New Things & Still Life – – part of the gallery’s ongoing work to explore the Collection using different themes, styles and subjects as the starting point.

Spotlight on the Grundy Art Gallery Collection – 15 April to 10 June

For spring 2023, Grundy Art Gallery is presenting two Collection Spotlight exhibitions. It’s part of the gallery’s ongoing work to explore the Collection using different themes, styles and subjects as the starting point. Not only do these exhibitions give regular opportunities for works from the Collection to be on display, but the series also enables these works to be seen in new and interesting ways.

New Things is an exhibition that brings together new artworks that the Grundy has acquired into the Collection during the last five years. All created within the last decade, these 40+ artworks by 25 different artists include drawing, sculpture, video, installation and performance. They demonstrate the many different ways in which contemporary artists use art to investigate and reflect upon the times in which we live.

Still Life includes works on loan from Salford Museum and Art Gallery, Touchstones Rochdale and the University of Salford Art Collection. This exhibition sees historical works brought into dialogue with contemporary examples that reference, subvert and reimagine Still-life. In doing so, the exhibition not only underlines the enduring appeal of Still Life as an approach to making art, but shows how it is also still relevant as a site of investigation for artists of today.

  • Tuesday to Saturday, 11am to 4pm. Last entry to the gallery is 3.40pm. FREE admission
