Popular farm butchers’ shop in retrospective planning bid

A long-established and popular family butchers and farming enterprise in Over Wyre has applied for retrospective planning permission to operate a farm shop.

Cardwell Farms Traditional Butchers, a long-established business headed by Richard Cardwell, opened a farm shop and butchers in February at a property called Inverbervie on Moss Side Lane in Stalmine-with-Staynall and has now applied for retrospective planning permission for the shop.

The planning application was submitted to Wyre planners seeking retrospective permission for a change of use of domestic land and domestic garage to a farm shop.

The proposals include the siting of a timber retail cabin, use of the garage for associated meat processing and storage, and formation of a customer car park (retrospective).

A Design and Access Statement on behalf of the applicants, stated: “The proposal represents a modest and proportionate form of agricultural diversification which is directly linked to the applicant’s existing farming enterprise.

“The farm shop enables produce reared on approximately 133 acres of agricultural land to be processed, prepared and sold directly to the public.

“The development supports the continued viability of the farm while providing an important local facility supplying high-quality meat produced both on the holding and by other local farmers.

“Importantly, the proposal utilises an existing domestic garage for processing and storage purposes, thereby avoiding the need for additional agricultural buildings.

“The timber retail cabin is modest in scale and sympathetically designed, while the customer parking area allows safe access without causing obstruction on the public highway.

“Taken together, the proposal represents sustainable rural development that supports agricultural diversification, the rural economy and local food production.”

It adds: “The scale of the development is modest, its visual impact is limited, and its operation remains intrinsically linked to the existing agricultural holding.
“It is therefore considered to accord with the objectives of both national planning policy and the Wyre Local Plan, and planning permission is respectfully sought.”
