There has been an update to a long-running planning saga involving proposals to build a small estate of bungalows on Marton Moss in Blackpool.

A total of 12 bungalows were originally built in 2021 as part of the initial phase of the Birchwood Gardens scheme, off Midgeland Road in the Moss area.

But Blackpool Council’s planning committee rejected an application by Denmac Holdings back in June 2022 to build further homes and complete its housing development on the site of the former Baguley’s Garden Centre.

However, an independent planning inspector overturned that decision in August 2023 following an appeal and an additional bungalows were approved to complete the site as an 18-dwelling estate tailored for the over-55s.

Conditions were imposed with the planning permission including in relation to measures to prevent flooding and to enhance the natural environment.

Now an application to vary those conditions has been approved by the planning officer at Blackpool Council.

The officer’s report stated: “Planning permission (ref: 18/0642) granted consent for 12 bungalows with associated roads and infrastructure.

“The permission included Conditions 16 and 17 relating to the surface water drainage strategy and the long-term drainage management arrangements.

“The site development has now been completed and all dwellings are occupied. The approved drainage system – separate foul and surface water systems – has been installed and connected to the public sewer in Midgeland Road, consistent with United Utilities’ approval.”

Birchwood Gardens Management Co Ltd was incorporated in October 2020 for the purposes of residents property management, meaning a management company currently manages the site.
