A local man who specialises in helping people to overcome the impact of vision loss has been chosen to join the senior England squad for the 2025 IBSA Partially Sighted Futsal World Championship in Turkey.
Bailey Pack, 24, works for N-Vision, the sight loss charity for the Fylde Coast. As Low Vision Specialist, he delivers free Low Vision Assessments for adults at the charity’s Blackpool headquarters. A keen sports player from a very early age, Bailey is a superb role model for what can be achieved, in spite of significant sight loss. He was born with Aniridia, which involves the absence of an iris, and Nystagmus which is a rhythmical, repetitive and involuntary movement of the eyes. He has never let this hold him back, including kicking a ball around from the time he could first walk!
That is no surprise when you consider that both his parents – who also have sight loss – have competed in visually impaired sports events.
Bailey has played football competitively from aged six, and transitioned into the increasingly popular sport of Futsal at age eight. Bailey’s skill in Futsal led to him being called up to the England partially sighted development squad and competing in last year’s Euros. He has worked hard again this year, to secure his England call-up to compete against teams from across the globe in the Partially Sighted Futsal World Championships.
Bailey said: “I am, of course, deeply honoured to represent my country in a sport I love. But I am also passionate about showing what is possible when you have sight loss. I have a degenerative sight impairment, but I believe you can enjoy life to the full if you keep a positive attitude, try your best and ask for relevant help and support.”
It is a philosophy shared by charity he works for, which strives to find solutions for the thousands of local people with different types and levels of sight loss.
Bailey added: “N-Vision recently won the contract to deliver Low Vision Assessments and support for all under 24-year-olds from across Lancashire. I hope our younger clients will be inspired and lifted to keep doing what they love, no matter how severe their sight impairment is.”
When Bailey returns from the Partially Sighted Futsal World Championship he will be turning his attention to another important calendar date; his stag-do at the end of November, then marriage to fiancée Lauren Stewart in 2026.
