Blackpool hotel plans to convert bar to create extra en-suite bedrooms

A hotel in central Blackpool plans to take the unusual step of converting its under-used bar area into two extra new ensuite guest bedrooms.

The Victoria Hotel at 30 Charnley Road has applied to Blackpool Council planners for permission for internal alterations to create two ground floor en-suite bedrooms within existing C1 hotel use.

Applicant Avian Properties is seeking a certificate of Lawfulness for the scheme, proposing that the internal project would not need planning permission.

A Planning Statement said: “This application seeks approval for minor internal alterations to the upper ground floor of 30 Charnley Road, Blackpool.

“The proposed scheme involves reconfiguring the existing internal layout to convert the underutilised bar and lounge area into two additional en-suite guest bedrooms.

“The property will remain fully operating as hotel/guest accommodation (Use Class C1).

“No change of use away from visitor accommodation is proposed. There will be no external works, the proposed alterations are 100 percent internal.

“There are no alterations to existing elevations, doors, windows, massing, height, or external building footprints.

“All other existing floor levels throughout the property will remain completely unchanged and unaffected by this proposal.”

The statement says the works will bring about quality improvements to the hotel, adding: “The works optimise internal space to provide modern, high quality en-suite guest bedrooms without impacting surrounding residential amenities, street scene, or localized parking arrangements.

“The proposal represents a sustainable and efficient internal enhancement of the existing hotel business within Blackpool’s main holiday accommodation area.

“Given that no external alterations are taking place, the local planning authority is respectfully requested to support this application.”
