Children from Blackpool nurseries celebrated the NSPCC’s Childhood Day at a special event for families at Stanley Park’s athletics track.
Childhood Day is the charity’s national day to fundraise and help keep children safe. Every year communities across the UK, come together to celebrate childhood through fundraising, volunteering and a range of activities for all to enjoy.
The event encouraged participants to join in a sponsored mile around the track by walking, running, hopping, skipping or toddling. All donations went directly to the NSPCC.
Children from West Park Kindergarten and Kids Planet Butterfly Nursery who took part received a certificate and sticker, there were free play activities from Early Years and Speech and Language Teams and there was live music from a local school brass band.
Over 80% of the NSPCC’s income comes from donations and every pound raised will help the charity be there for children when they need support through their services.
The NSPCC-led partnership, Blackpool Better Start, celebrated it’s 10-year anniversary last year and the National Lottery-funded programme strives to improve the speech and language, diet, nutrition, and social and emotional development of 0-4s across the town.
Erin Dust, Blackpool Better Start Business Manager, said: “We were thrilled to be able to host our first ever Childhood Day event for the NSPCC at Stanley Parks athletics track.
“Despite the poor weather conditions in the morning, our Blackpool families and nurseries showed how resilient and determined they can be and ran, hopped, skipped, jumped or simply walked around the track to support a good cause.
“Our Speech and Language and Early Years Teams set out some lovely activities to keep the little ones entertained in between races and the refreshment stall proved popular to rehydrate them afterwards.
“We’re so proud of the team’s effort in setting this event up and of our families and settings who have supported us to raise an overwhelming amount of money. Thank you to all those who took part and donated.
“We would love to make this an annual event and make next year’s celebration even bigger with the help of some of our partners in Blackpool. Watch this space!”
